While many quilts tend to be more traditional in styling, not everyone’s tastes run that way. With a patchwork feel done in more modern fabrics and colors, this quilt will fit in perfectly with more contemporary and trendy homes than the traditional patchwork style. It’s available in four color schemes, including black-and-white for people who love pattern (but not color) and three more colorful versions in blues, purples and reds. With the mix-and-match materials, it can easily set the tone for the room and work with a range of furniture and rugs. This medium-weight quilt set is 100% cotton and the basic version of the set includes two matching pillow shams, with options to add two or four additional pillows to further decorate the bed.

The Katabatic Gear Flex is a quilt that can used in a hammock or on the ground, coupled with a sleeping pad. Weight varies by temperature rating, but a standard-sized Flex 40 weighs 16.9 oz. It’s available with regular or HyperDRY waterproof goose down and comes with a sleeping pad attachment system to help prevent side drafts. The’ Flex also has a very desirable draft collar that snugs around your neck and prevents heat from escaping when you move around at night. The Flex footbox can be zippered closed and has a draw-string vent, or you can  unzip it completely and use it as a blanket. Katabatic Gear has a well-deserved reputation for making quilts that exceed their temperature rating. Price range $260.00-$435.00.

The Paria Thermodown 15 quilt is incredibly warm as it features no less than 22 ounces of 700-fill power down. However, with a weight of more than two pounds, it is also the heaviest products in this review. The Paria quilt has a lower limit rating at 15 F and thus it is perfect for backpacking in relatively cold weather. It has a very light and breathable shell and comfortable inner layer. The Paria quilt comes with a stuff sack for easy storage and has two straps to easily secure it to your sleeping pad. It can also be closed up to form a standard mummy sleeping bag in case that temperatures drop too low. The Paria Thermodown 15 quilt is a great option for beginners as well as more experienced backpackers.
Once again, Phillip…out of the ballpark with this review! In preps for my AT thru hike — start about a month from now — i bought an EE Convert (I was still not sure if I could go full quilt, just yet). The troops at EE were outstanding (I dealt with both Jacob and Tyler). Additionally, I went custom…and while concerned with time delay in doing so, EE provided me my pseudo-quilt in about two weeks! Amazing service, amazing product. And again, thanks for this website, amigo!

Quilts utilize either down or synthetic insulation. Down insulation is more thermally efficient (with a superior warmth-to-weight ratio) and compresses better than synthetic insulation. However, down insulation also has downsides; it is more expensive and unable to provide good warmth when exposed to moisture (sweat, rain, high humidity etc.). Nevertheless, as quilts are primarily intended for lightweight hiking, we only included quilts with down insulation in this review.
Not a fan of these Z-Packs Fan Boys, as some people like to call them. I have no way to prove it, but I think Z-Packs pays people for favorable reviews/comments. The favorable comments above probably came from one guy with a bunch of different “user accounts.” I’ve struggled with wanting to buy a Z-Packs tent and backpack in the past because their reviews and low weights are super enticing but I don’t think their equipment is built to last. This is coming from someone who’s never owned Z-Packs gear so take that as you will.
A warm, cozy quilt doesn’t have to be expensive. In general, quilts made with man-made materials, like microfiber and polyester, will be less expensive without sacrificing on warmth, softness or style. If you’re trying to make your money stretch further, choose one in a solid color you love with classic, unfussy stitching that can carry you through rounds of redecorating or work in different rooms over the years. This silky-soft quilt set (it includes shams as well) is oversized, meaning you have a few extra inches all around — a great option to cover the whole bed when you have a taller or pillow-top mattress on top of a box spring. It comes in more than fifteen colors to find the perfect shade for your home.
