Pacific Coast’s Luxury Goose Down Comforter is filled with divine 700 fill power goose down, the highest quality down you can find short of buying a $10000 eiderdown comforter. High quality craftsmanship and attention to detail combined with premium white goose down makes this one of the warmest and coziest comforters I have ever come across. “Real Simple” magazine thinks so too! This comforter was chosen as the best down comforter for year round use by “Real Simple”.
Fill Power: This is the goose down fill to be put in the comforter measured in cubic inches. The rule of thumb on fill is “The higher fill power, the higher the quality of comforter”. A high fill power is going to be more insulating and warmer but still remaining light and with loft. Our suggestion is to start at a fill power of at least 600 (commercial quality) with around 700+ being perfect loft, retaining body heat evenly. The higher the cubic inch measure of the fill power the higher the loft.
Goose comforters are incomparable to any other type of bed covering. Until you have slept underneath a warm goose comforter, you have not experienced the most amazing rest of your life. Yes, they are that spectacular. While it is easy to believe these comforters are restricted for winter use, the construction of down comforters is meant for different levels of seasonal use.
The down used in this 550 fill power comforter undergoes a cleaning process to get rid of odor and ensure purity. It's also covered by a 100% cotton sateen fabric with a 300 thread count. The baffle-box construction helps keep the down evenly dispersed and ties on the corner allow it to be attached to a duvet cover. Lands' End suggests caring for this comforter by using a commercial washer.
The Sea to Summit Ember EB III quilt is very light (it weighs merely 757 grams) and thus perfect for those who prefer lightweight hiking. Despite its low weight, it offers great insulation – it has the lower limit rating of -10°C by the EN standard. The shell and lining are made of 15-denier nylon which provides great durability for the weight. The quilt uses 750-fill power Ultra Dry Down which is treated with DWR (Durable Water Repellant) so that it resists moisture. Sea to Summit claims that Ultra Dry Down absorbs 30% less moisture than untreated down and is up to 60% better at retaining loft when wet. The Sea to Summit Ember EB III quilt also features a footbox with a drawcord and an adjustable strap system for easy attachment to the sleeping pad. Press studs down the side of the quilt allow you to close the lower half for better insulation. The Sea to Summit Ember EB III quilt is due to its low weight and superb insulation a great option for hikers, mountaineers and other outdoor enthusiasts who need reliable sleeping equipment for 3-season hiking.
If you live in a chilly climate or in an a home with poor insulation, you know what it means to get cold at night! For these homes, you want high loft (meaning lots of material between the outer layers) and a material that will hold in heat, like down, down alternative or wool, to help you get and stay warm for hours on end, so look for a fluffy box-stitched quilt to do the trick. This one is made from 100% polyester and a down alternative to make it both hypoallergenic and more affordable and can be used with or without a duvet cover.
Located beneath a bird’s feathers are three-dimensional clusters, typically found on a goose or ducks belly (see detailed Wikipedia Article). These little insulators are nature’s way of keeping moisture off the birds and keeping them warm. The clusters trap heat in the little air pockets of these tiny little fibers. Contrary to what most people may believe, down is quill-less. True down clusters resemble the size of a quarter. Down is not feathers as these are hair- like strands delicate and soft to the touch. Feathers have the spine down the center which is known as the quill, and they are used often in quality pillows and bedding. Sometimes you can
A great entry level comforter with high end features. Pinzon is Amazon.com’s house brand for bedding and linens – like how Costco rebrands their products under the Kirkland brand. Amazon’s Pinzon branded comforters are actually manufactured by Downlite, the company that also makes down filled bedding for Eddie Bauer, Bloomingdales, and other high-end retailers.
Unless you live in the tropics, most of us need a little warmth at night! A well-made quilt is the perfect bed topper that can both keep you cozy and set the decor tone for your room, and it’s also an easy and inexpensive way to introduce an all-new color or pattern into your bedroom. Whether you live in a warmer climate where you just need light coverage or a colder one that requires some real layers, quilts come in a variety of styles, materials and weights to suit your needs. The beauty of a quilt is that it can work alone or with layers of other bedding, so it can easily transition through changes of season or simply from napping during the warm daytime and going to bed in the chilly night.
If you're looking for variety, then look no further. This comforter is available in four weights (from "super light" to "extra"), five colors and six sizes (including oversized queen and king). The fill power ranges from 600 to 650 and its enclosed in a 300 thread count cotton sateen fabric that's combed for extra softness. It also has a baffle-box design to keep the down in place.

Then you will want to get the same bedding that the top hotels use! I did a bit of sleuthing and information gathering and found out which hotels use which brands of down comforters in their chains. Fortunately almost 80% of the down comforters, feather beds/mattress toppers, and pillows at the top hotles are supplied by 2-3 companies and the bedding manufacturers do sell the same products to the public too! Check out my guide to hotel collection down comforters, feather beds, and pillows if you want to replicate the 5-star experience at home.

With a 650 fill power, this style from JCPenney is a great option for year-round use. If you're looking for more warmth, this comforter is also available in Level 1 (600 fill power) or Level 3 (700 fill power) options. The 100% cotton cover has a 350 thread count, which is great for preventing down from poking through. It's machine washable (as long as there's enough room for it to move freely) and it has a baffle-box construction to keep the down evenly distributed. Keep an eye out for a sale on this one; it's rarely sold at its listed price.
