Best Quilts For Sale

Quilts, unlike blankets, are made of at least two layers of fabric with a warmth-inducing filler in between, with decorative stitching to hold the whole quilt sandwich together. Depending on what materials are used, a quilt can either be quite lightweight and breathable (great for warm-weather spots) or extremely warm and cozy. Typically, you can find that information in the product description (usually it’s described as light-, medium- or heavy-weight), but generally cotton is lighter-weight while materials like wool or microfiber will offer more warmth. Here, the best quilts for your needs.

The Paria Thermodown 15 quilt is incredibly warm as it features no less than 22 ounces of 700-fill power down. However, with a weight of more than two pounds, it is also the heaviest products in this review. The Paria quilt has a lower limit rating at 15 F and thus it is perfect for backpacking in relatively cold weather. It has a very light and breathable shell and comfortable inner layer. The Paria quilt comes with a stuff sack for easy storage and has two straps to easily secure it to your sleeping pad. It can also be closed up to form a standard mummy sleeping bag in case that temperatures drop too low. The Paria Thermodown 15 quilt is a great option for beginners as well as more experienced backpackers.
If you live in a place with a real change in seasons, look for a midweight quilt that will be comfortable when it’s warm out, but that’s easy to layer in the colder months. Choose a quilt in a solid, neutral color to give yourself the most flexibility as you transition through the seasons: In summer, pair it with lightweight cotton or linen sheets, then in winter trade in flannel sheets and top it with an extra throw blanket or duvet if you need more warmth.

A light, carefree look that's reminiscent of a seaside cottage. This airy cotton quilt features squares of painterly watercolor stripes, pieced this way and that for an artful patchwork effect. * Cotton shell; lofty recycled-poly fill * Hand-tacked for just the right amount of loft * Quilt and sham are backed in an allover mini-floral print * Finished with floral binding that matches the backing * ...

With a 650 fill power, this style from JCPenney is a great option for year-round use. If you're looking for more warmth, this comforter is also available in Level 1 (600 fill power) or Level 3 (700 fill power) options. The 100% cotton cover has a 350 thread count, which is great for preventing down from poking through. It's machine washable (as long as there's enough room for it to move freely) and it has a baffle-box construction to keep the down evenly distributed. Keep an eye out for a sale on this one; it's rarely sold at its listed price.

The Sierra Designs Backcountry 700 quilt is slightly heavier (900 grams) than the quilts from Sea to Summit and Nemo listed above but because it provides great functionality, it is nevertheless very popular among hikers and backpackers. The quilt features hand pockets which allow you to snugly enclose it around your body when the temperature drops. For good insulation it has an insulated hood and a tight-fitting footbox. It is also slightly wider than the other quilts on this list and thus better at preventing cold drafts. The quilt features a 20-denier nylon shell which provides great abrasion resistance. The insulation layer consists of 700-fill power hydrophobic down – each down plume is treated with DWR so that it stays dry longer when exposed to moisture. The quilt has a lower limit rating of -8 C° by the EN standard and comes with a stuff sack for easy storage.
While you choose the perfect down comforter, it is wise to pick up a decorative and functional duvet cover. It is a coordinating bed cover which is removable and easily washed. This will lengthen the lifetime of your down comforter by protecting it from mishaps like moisture. Duvet covers are spectacular for instantly changing the color scheme of your bedroom.
Design: By far one of the warmest and lightest comforters you can buy under $1000. Made in the USA with 600 fill power white goose down and 500 thread-count Egyptian cotton. Luxurious imported white goose down combined with true baffle boxes means this comforter will expand to 3+” when fluffed. Superior quality white goose down is lighter than regular down and yet warm enough for Northern European winters.
This is a very high quality goose down comforter. The fabric is definitely down proof as I have not seen any stray down yet. Construction is of the baffle boxstitch type rather than sewn-through which allows the down to loft easily. The edges are double-needle stitched with cording which adds durability. Down quality is excellent and I have not felt any feathers poking through. The comforter is very light but very warm, and I still felt toasty at temperature down to the high 50's.
The Therm-a-Rest Corus HD quilt is another great choice for 3-season hiking. The quilt uses 650-fill power down which is treated with Nikwax so that it repels the water (hydrophobic down) rather than absorbing it. Therefore, it offers better warmth when exposed to moisture than regular down. The shell is made of 20-denier DWR treated nylon for good abrasion resistance and weather protection. The quilt has also an elastic footbox so that it keeps your feet warm at low temperatures. As it features snap loops it can easily be attached to a sleeping pad. It comes in two different sizes – regular (193 cm in length) and long (203 cm in length).
The best thing I can say about a down comforter is you can't smell it. The next would be quality. Comfort would be next, but I've never experienced an uncomfortable down comforter. This one is perfect for Northern California, that it is warm but not so thick as to be too warm. Might be a little thin for sub-zero, but it sufficient down to the 30's. The cover has a soft, smooth surface, like sateen and has good baffling to keep the down from drifting, which is also important, like brakes on a car. It also has discreet corner loops for duvet covers and is priced, in my opinion below its value.

Amish quilts, while beautiful and certainly works-of-art, are made with the intention that they will actually be used as bed coverings and baby quilts. With strong seams and colorfast fabrics they are made to be laundered. And so even with daily use and reasonable care they can easily become family heirlooms. Wall hanging size Amish quilts are made in the same way.
Then you will want to get the same bedding that the top hotels use! I did a bit of sleuthing and information gathering and found out which hotels use which brands of down comforters in their chains. Fortunately almost 80% of the down comforters, feather beds/mattress toppers, and pillows at the top hotles are supplied by 2-3 companies and the bedding manufacturers do sell the same products to the public too! Check out my guide to hotel collection down comforters, feather beds, and pillows if you want to replicate the 5-star experience at home.

Cushy, down-filled comforters are a total treat to curl up with at night. There's plenty to love about them, from their lofty look, to the silk-like feathery feel. Beyond the general look and cost of a new down comforter, those who are in the market for making this major bedding upgrade may want to pay special attention to the various fill power options out there, in order to get the most out of your investment.
