I’m so happy with this comforter i ordered from them! I was a little nervous at first but once i opened it I was so surprised at the quality of it. It was flat at first, but it quickly began puffing up to size and it fit perfect on my bed. I loved the pillow like pattern on them, it was exactly what I was looking for. I wouldn’t hesitate to order again from them, highly recommend!!
The quality of down insulation is measured by the fill-power index which ranges from 400 (low grade down) to 900 (high grade down). The higher the fill-power index, the better warmth for the weight the insulation provides. Down is often treated with DWR (Durable Water Repellant) so that it becomes better at retaining warmth when exposed to moisture. Such down is referred to as hydrophobic down.
The comforter gets a lot of the credit for making your bed into the plush slumber sanctuary that it is. The quilt, meanwhile, is one of the most underrated bedding elements, easily adding extra warmth in the winter and a lighter cover option in the summer, as well as a tailored, textural layer that enhances the overall look of your sleep space year-round. Here are nine quilts that we wouldn't dream of kicking out of bed.

If you share your bed with someone, consider the Embrace style: It's designed with a double dome to individually cover each sleeper and prevent you from disturbing each other when you toss and turn. It also has a baffle-box design and a unique border to prevent the down from shifting. The 550 fill power is suitable for year-round use and it has a 100% cotton cover with a 300 thread count. But keep in mind before buying: The manufacturer suggests only dry cleaning or professional laundering.

The Therm-a-Rest Corus HD quilt is another great choice for 3-season hiking. The quilt uses 650-fill power down which is treated with Nikwax so that it repels the water (hydrophobic down) rather than absorbing it. Therefore, it offers better warmth when exposed to moisture than regular down. The shell is made of 20-denier DWR treated nylon for good abrasion resistance and weather protection. The quilt has also an elastic footbox so that it keeps your feet warm at low temperatures. As it features snap loops it can easily be attached to a sleeping pad. It comes in two different sizes – regular (193 cm in length) and long (203 cm in length).

Goose down can be found from birds captured in the wild. Goose down is larger and fluffier than duck. Either one of these choices will provide the same kind of insulation. Another difference is goose down clusters typically is taken from older or larger geese and have fewer odor issues unlike found sometimes with duck. Feathers used for lower quality bedding are often cut up into small pieces as a fill.

The best thing I can say about a down comforter is you can't smell it. The next would be quality. Comfort would be next, but I've never experienced an uncomfortable down comforter. This one is perfect for Northern California, that it is warm but not so thick as to be too warm. Might be a little thin for sub-zero, but it sufficient down to the 30's. The cover has a soft, smooth surface, like sateen and has good baffling to keep the down from drifting, which is also important, like brakes on a car. It also has discreet corner loops for duvet covers and is priced, in my opinion below its value.

Fill Power: This is the goose down fill to be put in the comforter measured in cubic inches. The rule of thumb on fill is “The higher fill power, the higher the quality of comforter”. A high fill power is going to be more insulating and warmer but still remaining light and with loft. Our suggestion is to start at a fill power of at least 600 (commercial quality) with around 700+ being perfect loft, retaining body heat evenly. The higher the cubic inch measure of the fill power the higher the loft.
Unless you live in the tropics, most of us need a little warmth at night! We also looked at what consumers were saying about their purchase. Percentages of satisfaction in all areas from customer service to the kind of rest consumers are receiving from their comforters. The idea behind an excellent comforter is to contain your warmth without the heavy weight. A good lofty fill is going to keep you warm all night without ever making you feel constrained.

Quilts require less fabric and insulation than sleeping bags and are thus in average 30% lighter and smaller (when packed) even while using the same materials. As they don’t fit snugly around your body, they also allow you to wear clothes during the night for extra warmth. However, quilts also have disadvantages in comparison to sleeping bags. They have to be used with a sleeping pad and they don’t prevent air drafts as good as sleeping bags, since the warm air escapes to the outside when you wiggle around. Therefore, they are not recommended for very cold weather, but most quilts do offer sufficient warmth for 3-season hiking.

In this review we selected the best backpacking quilts for 3-season adventures. We were especially looking for highly functional products which have a great warmth-to-weight ratio. If you think you might want to go for a sleeping bag instead, check out our review of the Best Lightweight 3-season Sleeping Bags. As quilts leave your back in direct contact with a sleeping pad, many use them together with sleeping bag liners which significantly increase the comfort for very little added weight (a sleeping bag liner can weigh as little as 100 grams). Check out our review of the Best Sleeping Bag Liners here.
Amish quilts are entirely hand quilted. The quilt top, batting, and quilt backing fabric are sandwiched together and held taut in a quilting frame. The quilter then uses needle and thread to place each quilting stitch in the quilt. A typical queen size bed quilt will have forty to fifty thousand such stitches. The quilting stitches are small (6 to 12 per inch), straight and uniform. To insure uniformity all the quilting for each quilt is done by one quilter.

The Sierra Designs Backcountry 700 quilt is slightly heavier (900 grams) than the quilts from Sea to Summit and Nemo listed above but because it provides great functionality, it is nevertheless very popular among hikers and backpackers. The quilt features hand pockets which allow you to snugly enclose it around your body when the temperature drops. For good insulation it has an insulated hood and a tight-fitting footbox. It is also slightly wider than the other quilts on this list and thus better at preventing cold drafts. The quilt features a 20-denier nylon shell which provides great abrasion resistance. The insulation layer consists of 700-fill power hydrophobic down – each down plume is treated with DWR so that it stays dry longer when exposed to moisture. The quilt has a lower limit rating of -8 C° by the EN standard and comes with a stuff sack for easy storage.
